On December 16, Guangzhou City University of Technology (GCUT) received good news from the China Association for Non-Government Education that six painting and calligraphy works of GCUT were awarded in the first Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition for Private Colleges and Universities of Guangdong province, including Feng Min’s decorative painting, Four Decorative Paintings of Guangzhou’s Landmarks, Zhang Shaoping’s calligraphy work (Wei stone tablet regular script), The Long March of Mao Zedong, Yang Jian’s calligraphy work (clerical script), Ode to the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China, Li Jun’scalligraphy work (cursive script), Poem of Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China, Chen Fangzhen’s calligraphy work(clerical script), Dragon-carving and the Literary Mind:The Origin of Truth and YueYanli’s calligraphy work (seal script), Snow -to the tune of Chin Yuan Chun were selected as outstanding works.

Guided by professor Feng Min, Four Decorative Paintings of Guangzhou’s Landmarks were created by Chen Suiling, Chen Zimei, Hao Juanjuan and Ma Maoqin as their graduation work, consisting of four decorative paintings at a width of 90cm and a height of 140cm each, including four landmarks, namely, the Canton Tower, Five-goat statue, Chen's Lineage Hall and Cruise on the Pearl River.

  Calligraphy works awarded mainly center on poems and lyrics of Chairman Mao Zedong and odes to the centenary of the Communist Party of China with its focus on quality of lines and brush strokes, highlighting changes of masstone, embodying elegant style and strong visual impact. Five calligraphy works concern Wei stone tablet regular script, cursive script, seal script, clerical script. These works present calligraphic and rich skills of GCUT’s teachers.

GCUT has always attached importance to aesthetic education, which promotes the all-round development of its teachers. It has founded the Calligraphy and Painting Association of GCUT, organizing a series of activities such as competitions of basic teaching skills of aesthetic teachers, art works exhibition and calligraphy exhibition. Moreover, it plays an active part in encouraging teachers to participate in competitions and activities such as exhibition of art teachers of Guangdong province and application of outstanding aesthetic teacher studio of Guangdong province. GCUT’s six awarded painting and calligraphy works also demonstrate its achievements in aesthetic education.

In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Guangdong Association for Non-Government Education held the painting and calligraphy exhibition for staff of private colleges and universities in Guangdong province themed on “Following the Party and Forging Ahead in the New Era”. The first exhibition received 325 works from 80 universities. Through selection by experts, 129 works from 46 universities shortlisted for outstanding works. Such works will be compiled and printed in a book for online exhibition.
